Reflexed RAW Verification

What Reflexed verification is, how it works, why it matters, and supported models.

Why it matters

Reflexed turns claims into proof. A RAW file carries the camera maker notes, so the body identifies itself. We match model and a masked serial, and for supported models we show a true shutter count. Honest sellers get credit, and buyers get confidence.

Why it's good for both sides

  • Faster sales: Verified listings reduce back and forth, cut friction, and convert sooner.
  • Fewer disputes: Clear metadata means fewer surprises, fewer returns, and fewer chargebacks.
  • Privacy first: We extract only what is needed, mask serials on public pages, and do not publish your RAW.
  • Integrity checks: We flag edits, mismatched bodies, and suspicious EXIF patterns so problems are caught early.

What sets Reflexed apart

  • RAW only: Screenshots and JPEGs are easy to tamper with, so we require the original RAW file.
  • Deep maker note parsing: We read brand specific fields for model, serial, lens, and actuation count where available.
  • Bound to the listing: Each verification is tied to one unique item and cannot be reused.
  • Transparent coverage: A live support matrix shows which brands and models expose which fields.
  • Simple workflow: Generate the phrase, shoot one RAW, upload, confirm.

How RAW verification works

~1–2 minutes
1. Start verification

Start verification to generate a one-time 5-word phrase (3 minute timer).

2. Shoot RAW

Photograph the phrase with the for-sale camera.

3. Upload RAW

Drag CR3, ARW, NEF, RAF, RW2, ORF, or DNG.

4. Parse EXIF

We read MakerNotes for model, serial & shutter*.

5. Confirm

You review details, then your listing gets the badge.

Do

  • Use an unedited RAW (CR3/ARW/NEF/RAF/RW2/ORF/DNG).
  • Upload directly from the camera/card to Reflexed; no intermediate apps or cloud tools.
  • Keep the phrase clearly readable in the frame.

Don't

  • No crops, edits, or format conversions.
  • Do not send files through messaging, social media, cloud backups, or “Share/Save to…” workflows. These can re-encode and strip EXIF/MakerNotes.

* Shutter count shows only for supported models. Verification is bound to this single listing.

Supported cameras (RAW-based)

The matrix lists bodies where Reflexed extracts RAW MakerNotes. “Serial” means we can confirm body identity, and “Shutter count” indicates models exposing an actuation count.

Notes

  • Canon: R3/R5/R6 families and several 2021+ R bodies include a RAW MakerNotes shutter count; many DSLRs and early R bodies (R/RP/xxD/Rebels) do not.
  • Nikon & Pentax: MakerNotes include both serial and shutter count for most bodies; even Z-series mirrorless expose counts.
  • Sony: Shutter count is readable; serial appears when the in-camera “Write Serial Number” option is enabled on many newer bodies.
  • Fujifilm: We read the MakerNotes image/frame count (may reset or wrap after service or high counts); used as shutter count here.
  • OM System / Panasonic: Shutter count is not written to EXIF; service menus show it. We still verify body identity from RAW.
  • Leica: Modern models do not expose shutter count in EXIF; serial is present in RAW (DNG/MakerNotes).
  • Sigma: RAW embeds serial but not shutter count (fp/fp L and X3F bodies).

Send us additional RAW samples to expand the matrix—we schedule updates as new MakerNotes formats appear.
